Introduction

The International Labour Organization (ILO) Internship Programme offers a wide range of opportunities to senior students, graduates and recent graduates, who are seeking a “hands-on” learning experience in areas related to the ILO’s mandate and activities. The objective of our internship programme is to expose interns to the daily work of the ILO over a period of three to six months.

The ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:

  • gain a better understanding of relevant international issues by directly involving them in the work of the Office and in the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies; and (
  • gain practical experience within the ILO directly related to their field of study.
  • The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career within the ILO. Interns should not expect future employment upon completion of their internship.

IMPORTANT:

Context

  • The ILO Country Office in Antananarivo provides advisory services, capacity building and technical support to government, employers’ groups and workers’ organizations in the countries it covers: Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles.
  • The countries have a strong development potential but must meet the challenges of social and economic development. Insularity, narrow markets, fragile ecosystems and the recurrence of natural disasters are the dominant factors in this part of the Indian Ocean.
  • Faced with the various development challenges facing these countries, the tripartite constituents for each country have developed and implemented a Decent Work Programme (DWPP) in line with national development policies or strategies. Lasting from 3 to 5 years depending on the country, the DWPP is the framework that highlights and formalizes the orientations and actions recommended by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the African Union Agenda 2063, the Ouagadougou +10 Roadmap and the resolutions of the ILO Centenary Declaration and the 14th Abidjan Regional Meeting.

Areas of learning

  • As an intern, you will be exposed to the ILO’s conceptual approaches and practical interventions to support the Office in promoting decent work and social justice in the four countries covered.
  • You will gain experience working with the Office’s communications and programming team, contributing to the dissemination of the results and achievements of the ILO’s work to support countries in promoting social justice and decent work.  

You will benefit from the expertise and experiences of a network of ILO and UN Communication Officers (office, projects, UN Communication group). Under the overall guidance of the Director of the Office and the direct supervision of the Office’s Communication and Public Information Assistant, the intern will carry out the following tasks:

  • Provide assistance in writing and editing articles on the achievements of the Office and projects
  • Support the production of Newsletters and brochures etc.
  • Support the updating of the Office’s social networks and website.
  • Support the organization of events.
  • Support in the production of communication materials (brochures, videos, roll-ups, banners, etc.)

Required profile

Education

  • Communication, Journalism, or other related field.
  • The candidate must be enrolled in the final year of a graduate program or have completed such a program less than one year ago (mandatory).

Experience

  • A demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to one year) in research and/or professional experience related to communication would be an advantage.
  • Digital skills/computer graphics, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Photoshop or other photo/video editing software, publisher, social media (Twitter, LinkedIn…).

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in English and French is required.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete tasks within given time frames
  • Willingness to acquire new knowledge and skills
  • The ability to work in a team
