Job Description: Summary
Baylor College of Medicine at CHRISTUS Children’s is seeking an advanced practice provider (APP) to join the section of Pediatric and Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery. The APP works under a delineation of clinical privileges and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team, including the attending physicians, resident physicians, and fellow physicians to provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the APP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. Job duties are performed in a manner that is appropriate for the ages of patients served. The APP is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.

Job Duties
- Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
- Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
- Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Physician Assistant:
- Education Required: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.
- Experience Required: None required.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Current controlled substances certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration or eligible for the same.
- Current certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants; eligible for same.
- Broad knowledge of medical terminology and pathology, a broad knowledge of adult learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching.
- Strong physical assessment and diagnostic skills as well as experience in patient and family education and coordination of care.
Nurse Practitioner:
- Education Required: Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Experience Required: None required.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Current controlled substances certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration or eligible for the same.
- Broad knowledge of medical terminology and pathology, a broad knowledge of adult learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching;
- Strong physical assessment and diagnostic skills as well as experience in patient and family education and coordination of care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background working with children with chronic illness, and knowledge of long-term medications and drug interactions.
