Salary: Building Level Support (range $18.00 – $22.40 based on the 24/25 salary schedules and related experience)

Summary of Position:

In the Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA), educator teams work together with distributed expertise to support a shared roster of students. The teams, typically comprising credentialed teachers, paraeducators, aspiring teachers, specialists, and/or community educators, use formative data and other evidence of student learning to move educators and students fluidly across multiple shared spaces, prioritizing deeper and personalized learning for students. 

Each educator team is supported by an Instructional Assistant who will support a shared roster of learners with the educator team and directly interact with students. Additionally, the Instructional Assistant will work under the guidance and supervision of the Lead Teacher. This role is pivotal in delivering direct instruction to students, ensuring each students’ academic needs are met.

The Instructional Assistant is a dynamic and adaptive educator, committed to the principles of the TLA. This role requires dedication, flexibility, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of students. Through their work, Instructional Assistants play a crucial role in the realization of the TLA’s vision for an innovative, collaborative, and personalized learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support instructional activities and lesson plans prepared by the Lead Teacher and Teacher, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in implementing instructional strategies.
  • May provide targeted intervention to students who require additional assistance in academic and/or behavioral areas, under the guidance and direction of the Lead Teacher.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to both the Instructional Lead and students to inform instructional adjustments, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Supervise students during instructional periods, transitions, and non-instructional times to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with members of the Teaching and Learning Academy to promote a cohesive educational approach and contribute to the realization of the Teaching and Learning Academy’s vision.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining open lines of communication with families, including sharing student progress, addressing concerns, and fostering positive relationships.
  • Provide direct instruction to small groups of students, delivering lessons and facilitating learning experiences as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification:

The Instructional Assistant must have a minimum of one of the following:

  • High School Diploma
  • Hold or pursuing an Associates Degree in Education
  • Pursuing Alternative Licensure
  • Enrolled in year 3, 4 or student teaching experience for a Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • May also be a licensed teacher 
  • Experience:While formal teaching experience is not required, any experience working with children or in educational settings is beneficial. 
  • Knowledge of and Abilities:Ability to effectively support instructional activities and implement lesson plans with guidance from the Lead Teacher.
  • Capacity to connect with students and build positive relationships, demonstrating patience, empathy, and effective communication skills.
  • Desire to pursue further education and training in the field of education, including participation in Science of Reading training or related coursework.
  • Expectations:Working toward or completion of Science of Reading training (or successful completion of equivalent college/university courses)

  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves sitting, walking, and/or standing. 
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
