Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Automation Portfolio, the Lead, Automation Solutions & Projects will be responsible for managing all automation related projects at McKesson Canada as well as advancing automated supply chain expertise across the organization. The Lead, Automation Solutions & Projects will partner with various business segments & functions, such as Distribution & National Operations & Transportation, Business Developments & Sales, IT & Technology Solutions as well as other key stakeholders to identify, define, prioritize and execute Supply Chain Transformational initiatives related to automated solutions.

The Lead, Automation Solutions & Projects will mobilize & guide cross-functional project teams and play a central role in developing innovative supply chain automation principles as well as developing comprehensive business cases & robust implementation plans. The Lead, Automation Solutions & Projects will be accountable to drive the execution of multiple projects in parallel through various supply chain transformation strategies, such as, but not limited to, implementation and optimization of automated distribution systems & processes, construction & infrastructure and business process transformation.

The role will require exceptional project & stakeholder management skills and the ability to translate conceptual strategies into tactical action plans. Superior communication skills to effectively engage and promote collaboration among multi-function and/or cross-BU project teams is critical to the success of the Lead, Automation Solutions & Projects function.

Section A – Specific Responsibilities

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Establishes project team & governance structure as well as manages project reporting & communications, including executive presentations
  • Works closely with departmental management to develop projects/initiatives, which are aligned to strategic/business objectives. Leads cross-functional teams to develop strategic network analysis and supply chain projects.
  • Ensures accuracy of project financial management activities to track and forecast all project expenses, including capital as well as operational costs.
  • Responsible for undertaking any special tasks, preparing special reports requested by Executive & Management team as they relate to ongoing projects and preparation of future projects.
  • Performs strategic network planning and financial analysis on new initiatives or opportunities.
  • Develops, analyzes, and interprets short and long range plans to support project operations to maximize the margin profitability.
  • Identifies and assesses strategic business opportunities that improve financial effectiveness and provides relevant financial/business analysis. Develops and maintains benchmarking/comparable analysis for decision-making.

AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS STRATEGY

  • Provides subject matter expertise in automation solutions strategies in a supply chain environment
  • Develops & recommends creative solutions supported by fact-based business cases & leading industry practices, that will drive the evolution of supply chain automation strategies & systems
  • Maintains relevant business knowledge of supply chain automation systems and stays abreast of market and industry trends to advise the organization to develop & maintain competitive advantages
  • Identifies potential synergies and areas of opportunities to create business value from supply chain automation systems
  • Develops & implements innovative & programs, in collaboration with national centers of excellence within the organization, aiming to standardize as well as maximize & enhance utilization of automation systems assets
  • Develops long-range objectives and strategic plans, identifying internal and external strategic issues and direction.

Section B – Required Abilities and Knowledge

WORKING EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years’ experience in project management, supply chain management and automated production systems
  • Leadership experience with a strong knowledge of supply chain automation, strategic network planning, financial planning, business process engineering, business case development and performance management.
  • Solid experience in presentation, facilitation, and ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely to engage and inform target audiences.

SOFT SKILLS

  • Results driven with a concern for efficiency, while being meticulous and team oriented
  • Good sense of organization, excellent time management skills, and demonstrates high level of autonomy and resourcefulness
  • Capacity to work under pressure & multi-task in a demanding environment
  • Ability to establish & maintain positive working relationships, both internally & externally
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing business conditions
  • Effective negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills with external organizations (vendors, service providers)
  • Exceptional communication skills in French/English, both written and verbal, that engage and inform the target audience. Refined presentation, facilitation, and ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely to many audiences within the organization.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to develop reports, analyze & synthesize results, define tracking & reporting mechanisms
  • Strong ability to analyze situations and solve complex problems that satisfy multiple perspectives
  • Excellent understanding of distribution systems (WMS, WCS, LMS)
  • Strong systems application knowledge and telecommunication skills, including an excellent knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite and Database Management & Analytics Systems.

Section C – Education Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Logistics & Operations Management or equivalent business experience MBA or MSc designations are assets Project Management Professional certification or Six Sigma certification is preferred

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$102,100 – $170,100
