Dr. Nicole Provenza’s Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine is recruiting a postdoctoral scholar to lead a project on elucidating the neurophysiological mechanisms of treatment-resistant bipolar disorder (TRBD) and the mechanisms by which deep brain stimulation achieves therapeutic benefit in TRBD. This project is part of a NIH BRAIN Initiative funded clinical trial and involves quantification of task-locked and naturalistic behavior via wearables, audio, and video recordings. This position will provide rigorous exposure and mentorship in clinical psychiatric neuromodulation between the departments of neurosurgery and psychiatry, and guidance towards a future career in academia or industry.

Job Duties

  • Oversees neural and behavioral data collection in the clinic and in home environments of patients.
  • Develops data synchronization strategies to enable analysis of high resolution neural and behavioral data.
  • Analyzes data to uncover neurobehavioral relationships underlying relevant TRBD states (depression, hypomania, and healthy behavior).
  • Incorporates neural biomarker tracking in clinician facing dashboard to monitor clinical status remotely.
  • Uses neural or behavioral biomarkers to inform stimulation adjustments or develop adaptive stimulation paradigms.
  • Mentors junior lab members on related projects.
