QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification with required endorsements

Endorsements:

All PPCD Teachers must hold ESL certification

AND

One of the following Special Education certifications:

Deaf and Severely Hard of Hearing

Deaf-Blind

Deficient Vision

Early Childhood Education for Handicapped Children (Infants-Grade 6 only)

Elementary – Generic Special Education

Emotionally Disturbed

Generic Special Education

Hearing Impaired

High School – Generic Special Education

Language and/or Learning Disabilities

Mentally Retarded

Physically Handicapped

School Speech-Language Pathologist

Severely and Profoundly Handicapped

Severely Emotionally Disturbed and Autistic

Special Education Early Childhood-Grade 12

Speech and Hearing Therapy

Speech and Language Therapy

Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments Supplemental Early Childhood-Grade 12

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Early Childhood-Grade 12

Visually Handicapped

AND

Generalist EC-6 and English as a Second Language Supplemental

OR

Teacher of Young Children – General and ESL

OR

Elementary PK-6 and English as a Second Language Supplemental

OR

Core Subjects EC-6 and English as a Second Language Supplemental

OR

Kindergarten and English as a Second Language Supplemental

AND

All ECSE Teachers must also meet one of the following:

(A) a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or another early childhood education credential approved by the agency;

(B) certification offered through a training center accredited by Association Montessori Internationale or through the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education;

(C) at least eight years’ experience of teaching in a nationally accredited child care program;

(D) be employed as a prekindergarten teacher in a school district that has received approval from the commissioner for the district’s prekindergarten-specific instructional training plan that the teacher uses in the teacher’s prekindergarten classroom; or

(E) an equivalent qualification.
