Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification by the State Board for Mathematics Grades 4-8 or 7-12
  • Additional ESL and/or SPED certification, preferred
  • Three years of teaching experience with a proven track record of measurable student achievement in mathematics

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of numeracy instruction and best practices in delivering mathematic interventions
  • Ability to effectively instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Strong understanding of vertical alignment for Math TEKS 4th grade through Algebra I
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Google, Microsoft program, SMART, and other technology applications

Under the guidance of the Curriculum and Instruction department, the Math Acceleration teacher is responsible for providing instruction to students, individually and in small groups, to enable students to develop grade-appropriate mathematical skills. The Mathematics Acceleration teacher will teach a course designed to prepare students for their core math class by previewing components of on-grade-level concepts and reinforcing necessary targeted skills. The secondary mathematics acceleration teacher will also serve as a mathematics leader at their assigned campus with the responsibility of implementing a comprehensive mathematics program as outlined by the Curriculum and Instruction department through coaching, supporting, and guiding other teachers in best practices for mathematics instruction.

Instructional:

  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to determine mathematics proficiency, appropriate placement, specific instructional needs, and strengths in the grade level topic of study.
  • As applicable, participate in parent conferences, MTSS, 504, and ARD meetings, and provide instructional guidance and suggestions.
  • Remain grounded in content standards and objectives aligning with district mathematical goals to facilitate integrated and concept-based instruction.
  • Act as a postive role model for students and support the missions of the school district.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members and support the mission of the school district.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional: 

  • Participate in professional development as directed by the Curriculum and Instruction department and based on personal reflections to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required by Curriculum and Instruction department and campus leadership.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computers and peripherals; standard instruction equipment.
  • Posture: Regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; regular overhead reaching.
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds).
  • Environment: Work inside; work alone; potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruption; maintain emotional control under stress.
