Main purpose of job:
To provide a high standard of transport and logistics to British Embassy Abidjan, and to represent His Majesty, and His Government, appropriately and correctly in all external engagements. Core duties include driving and providing administrative assistance. Support on security issues, and cover in PSM’s absence.
Roles and responsibilities:
General driving duties (60%)
- Undertake all driving responsibilities issued by relevant Embassy staff, including delivery and collection of passengers, of official paperwork and any ad-hoc driving requirements, including out-of-hours work.
- Work with Head Driver to ensure effective forward planning and systems for all staff and Embassy transport needs and trips, keeping colleagues informed.
- Contribute to a collaborative and mutually supportive workplace by assisting colleagues including other teams when needed and within competencies and capacities (e.g. helping with security for Embassy events, crisis work).
Care of transport fleet (15%)
- Keep the vehicles clean and serviceable.
- Ensure the vehicles are always presentable and that they have the appropriate supplies (e.g. water, first aid kits, emergency kits etc).
- Conduct daily check of tyre pressure, hydraulic fluid, oil, battery level and fuel.
- Identify, report and seek a solution for any defects as early as possible and keep any potential risk to a minimum level.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance, servicing, and insurance renewal as necessary.
Administrative duties (25%)
- Monitor fuel usage and billing and ensure transport fleet invoices are correct and provide good value for money. Prepare all paperwork and invoices within the deadlines.
- Provide support to PSM and PSO on security issues and cover for the PSM in their absence.
- Undertake any ad-hoc duties to help meet Embassy objectives.
- Participate in logistical preparations of high-level visits, including driving schedules etc.
- Stay up to date with all related compulsory training needs.
Corporate (5%)
- Contribute to the wider wellbeing and effectiveness of the Embassy (e.g. surprise checks, participation in committees etc.)

• Valid driver’s license
• Minimum 2 years driving experience
• Broader knowledge of travel routes, road conditions throughout [Country/City].
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent time management skills
• Pass a competency-based driving test set by the Embassy.
• Well-developed sense of safety; presentable appearance; service and customer focus approach.

Previous experience working in a foreign diplomatic mission or an international organisation.

- This is a 12 months fixed term with possibility of renewal
