Programme for Emerging Infection under Infectious Diseases Division is conducting a study on producing data to determine the causes of death of children more accurately. The findings will be shared with families, communities, healthcare providers, and local and national public health institutes to develop policies and actions.

Position Description:

  • The Research Officer will report to the Senior Research Investigator and will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conducting literature reviews, analyze data, and derive scientific conclusions;
  • Assist in preparing scientific manuscript for peer-reviewed journals;
  • Conduct basic statistical analysis for abstracts and manuscripts;
  • Monitor field data collection, and provide regular updates to the supervisor to meet study objectives;
  • Regularly summarize and interpret collected data throughout the study;
  • Plan, coordinate and manage field activities based on study requirements; 
  • Supervise GPS data collection, manage GIS datasets and conduct spatial analysis using ArcMap or QGIS;
  • Collaborate with the supervisor and team to develop high-quality research reports and presentations for scientific forums;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure quality implementation and contribution to the project and the organization.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Masters in Statistics/Biostatistics/Geography/Social Science/Public Health;
  • At least 3 years of experience in relevant fields;
  • Experience in statistical programming languages, such as STATA or R 
  • Candidates having experience in Geographic Information System (GIS) will be given preference
