Description
Summary – This position is responsible for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages through integrated drug distribution, clinical services, and provision of drug information. S/he collaborates with medical and nursing staff to ensure high quality, safe medication management. S/he ensures that all medication standards as documented in standard operating procedures and/or state/federal regulations are maintained. The Pharmacist also shares professional responsibility for oversight of Pharmacy Technicians’ work to ensure accuracy and timeliness of pharmaceutical preparations. The Pharmacist also shares responsibility for serving as a resource to patients. S/he participates in demonstrates ownership of continual process/quality improvement and demonstrates professional responsibility for ongoing personal development. This position performs centralized and decentralized unit – based care to patients and other medical professional staff.
Education – Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience – For new hires: Must be a PGY-1 trained pharmacist OR have a Board Certification (BCPS) OR have greater than 5 years of experience with more than 50% of their practice in those years as a clinical pharmacist OR a current pharmacist at Meritus: Must have 3 years of experience practicing at Meritus as a pharmacist performing more than 50% of your practice as a clinical pharmacist to be promoted PLUS a continuous professional development program, cross training in additional specialty areas OR BPS.
Licensure/Certification – Maryland Pharmacist license required OR eligibility to obtain licensure. Pharmacists pending Maryland licensure through reciprocation must obtain their Maryland Pharmacist License within 4 months of their date of hire. For newly graduated pharmacists pending Maryland licensure, they must obtain Maryland licensure within 4 months of their graduation date or their date of hire, whichever is later. Pharmacists pending Maryland licensure must work under the supervision of a Maryland Licensed pharmacist and cannot perform pharmacist acts until licensed.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Position requires ability to demonstrate sound professional judgment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in the workload and schedule. Ability and initiative to assume responsibility for patient’s drug therapy. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with Pharmacy staff, physicians, nurses and patients. Ability to lead staff pharmacists and work with them. Strong teaching and mentoring skills.
