Provide a welcoming, inclusive classroom with engaging, high-quality instruction for academic courses and skills training courses as assigned, in all delivery formats at any service area location; provide timely, meaningful feedback to students regarding mastery of learning outcomes; engage with students in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities; participate meaningfully in student retention and completion initiatives; provide institutional support and community service; support the College’s mission and strategic plan initiatives; conform to regional expectations of faculty performance and engagement.

INSTRUCTION 

Deliver assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course and program learning outcomes, including FERPA-compliant maintenance of student records, attendance, grades, and other required documentation. Deliver classes for college, dual enrolled high school students, or skills training students at any campus, site, high school, career center, or partner location within the six-county service area. Facilitate student achievement using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, including use of the college Learning Management System (e.g. IvyLearn). Manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices. Ensure knowledge and implementation of emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs, and all learning environments. Develop and maintain curriculum and supporting course materials in keeping with and furtherance of course objectives and program learning outcomes.

RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS

Monitor student and advisee performance in partnership with professional academic advising staff, including use of academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources. Maintain posted office and engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2). Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone or other electronic technology.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 

Advance instructional and technical skills through professional development such as scheduled training, self-study, or scholarly activity related to contemporary pedagogy and teaching related technology. Participate in self-study, scholarly activity, or time spent onsite in related business and industry settings to stay current in the discipline, in fulfillment of annual performance plans and as required for certification and licensure.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND BUSINESS OUTREACH

Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college to advance the college’s relationships within its service area. Develop contacts with community/industry/business/university partners, as appropriate to the school or program, to advance college relationships within the service area.

INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT

Actively participate in committee work, accreditation tasks, grant projects, commencement, college/campus/school/faculty meetings and other institutional support as requested by administration. Support program or department chair in program activities including program administration, enrollment management, and human resources management. Support and engage with Career Services, alumni activities, and the Ivy Tech Foundation. Adhere to college and campus academic policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possess an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in English, or an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in any field with 18 graduate semester credit hours in English, linguistics, or courses related to the writing process. Have a strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to the area of instruction.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Credentials listed above and at least one of the following: one year experience in teaching or tutoring in a second language, an ESOL teaching endorsement, or an ESOL teaching certification such as TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, or other nationally recognized certification in the field.
