Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking an Elementary School English Language Learners (ELL) Teacher for the 2024-2025 School year. Our Teachers develop and implement instructional programs that effectively provide the best possible education for each and every student. This role provides teaching and/or training services to students for whom English is a second language through general instruction and specialized subjects. Additionally, this role will leverage strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.

This position will support two elementary schools – Wilderness Elementary and Smith Station Elementary. Travel between these schools is required. 

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares and meets students for instruction in designated times and locations.
  • Designs coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
  • Plans instruction to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines; creates instructional materials that align with state standards and meets the needs of all learners.
  • Creates and leverages a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short-term and long-range instructional decisions to improve student learning; administers formal assessments both at the state level and the county level in accordance with established procedures;documents student learning gains using appropriate assessment instruments; tracks student learning to show gains.
  • Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations; evaluates students’ progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback, maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Leverages appropriate materials, technology, and resources in a manner that promotes the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
  • Understands unique learning styles and differentiates instruction to meet diverse student needs; selects, evaluates, and refines a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement of students and improvement of student learning.
  • Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff; ensures the adequate and safe supervision of students and manages classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time.
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development; maintains licensure at the state and/or national level; assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.

Education and Experience:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
  • An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable. 

Preferred

  • Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
  • Prior teaching experience within a public school system

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (200 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
