This project focuses on designing and engineering materials at the nanoscale, particularly two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, with applications across three critical areas: energy, water, and food.

  1. Energy: The aim is to integrate 2D nanomaterials into energy storage and conversion technologies. This includes developing advanced rechargeable batteries, enhancing hydrogen generation and storage, and improving carbon dioxide utilization and storage through electrocatalysis.
  2. Water: The project targets the use of 2D nanomaterials in membrane technologies to advance filtration and purification processes, addressing challenges related to water scarcity and contamination.
  3. Food: The focus is on applying 2D nanomaterials to create innovative sensors and additives for agriculture. This involves developing systems for monitoring plant health, protecting crops from pests, and ensuring sustainable nutrient release for improved crop productivity.

The research seeks to leverage the unique properties of 2D nanomaterials to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and performance in these essential sectors.

Important Note

We welcome you to have a conversation with Assistant Professor Edison Ang to discuss this PhD project further. You are strongly encouraged to reach out to him at least 3 months in advance of application deadline (i.e. 31 January 2025) as the process of confirming the supervision and preparing your proposal for application may take longer than you anticipate.

Minimum Entry Requirement

A Bachelor’s degree with honours at least at Second Class Upper level, Master’s degree in the relevant areas and the ability to pursue research in the candidate’s proposed field of advanced study.

Shortlisted applicants will undergo an interview session as part of the selection process.

A valid GRE score is required for applicants who are not graduates of the Autonomous Universities in Singapore. See detailed requirements for English language on competency and GRE requirements  here.
