Description

We currently have a vacancy for an IT/Open Source Expert fluent in English, to offer his/her services as an expert who will be based in Brussels, Belgium. The work will be carried out either in the company’s premises or on site at customer premises. In the context of the first assignment, the successful candidate will be integrated in the Development team of the company that will closely cooperate with a major client’s IT team on site.

Your tasks

  • Actively contribute to the implementation of the renewed action plan of the Open Source Strategy;
  • Provide general technical advice, assistance, technology watch, product management and support on open source software;
  • Elaborate on functional and non-functional requirements, business case analysis needed for product selection, tendering specifications and project initiations;
  • Act as centre of excellence regarding open source software licensing, upstream code contributions, trends in use of open source software, in particular concerning public services;
  • Build and maintain a community of open source practitioners and stakeholders;
  • Carry out project management related tasks such as project planning, risk management, issue management, coordination, manage deliverables and report to hierarchy on the progress made;
  • Produce and give presentations, reports concerning open source activities;
  • Provide business and technical support on open source related matters;
  • Regular reporting to the project officer.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in IT or relevant discipline, combined with minimum 17 years of relevant working experience in IT;
  • At least 15 years of experience with open source software;
  • At least 3 years of experience in setting up and working in an Open Source Programme Office in a large organization;
  • Experience in procuring, setting up and general user management of a software development repository (based on Gitlab or equivalent);
  • Good knowledge of the European policymaking process;
  • Excellent command of the English language.
