The Global Scientist Interdisciplinary Forum at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) School of Medicine and School of Public Health and Emergency Management is an important conference for talent recruitment. It aims to provide a platform for academic exchanges among domestic and international scholars, promote interdisciplinary and academic innovation, and discuss the approaches for building towards a world-class medical school. Senior Faculty (Chair Professor / Professor) 

1. Requirements 

Internationally recognized tenured professor or associate professor with outstanding academic and professional accomplishments from well-known universities or research institutions. 

2. Support 

Research funds: decision made case by case. 

3. Remuneration 

Salary: Globally competitive salary; Potential benefits of reduced individual income tax: income tax of highly qualified individual will be compensated by local government to a maximum of 15%. 

Insurances: Shenzhen’s highest level of retirement insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, industrial injury insurance, maternity insurance and housing provident funds. Special high-level health insurance is negotiable. 

4. Benefits 

Housing and subsidies: Temporary on-campus apartments provided or subsidies to support off-campus rental housing. The university will assist in applying for the corresponding support programs according to the national, provincial and municipal policies. Successful personnel will receive the relevant project funding / award. 

Other benefits: Permanent residence or resident visa service for scholars and family (spouse and children) for those who hold foreign visas; The university will facilitate children’s education enrollment and spouse’s employment. 

 

Junior Faculty (Associate / Assistant professor) 

1. Requirements 

Doctoral degree obtained from internationally renowned universities and institutes; or Ph.D. degrees from Chinese universities and more than 36 months of continuous overseas work experience, with a formal teaching or research position in well-known overseas universities and research institutes. 

2. Support 

Research funds: Funding will be provided according to relevant policies, which is on par with international standards. 

Eligible to participate in the postgraduate enrollment of Biology and Clinical Medicine as a mentor.

Introduction of School of Medicine of Southern University of Science and Technology

The School of Medicine at the Southern University of Science and Technology strives to build a first-class research medical school in Shenzhen to meet the needs of China. Our highest mission is to cultivate top-notch innovative talents with international vision and the courage to pioneer; and to explore the future of medicine, lead the development of disciplines, and create advanced diagnosis and treatment models. The current dean of the School of Medicine is Professor Songling Wang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a famous physician scientist in China.

1. Department Development 

The school has established five academic departments, including Department of Pharmacology, the Department of Biochemistry, the Department of Medical Neurosciences, the Department of Human Cell Biology, and the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology. Two undergraduate programs－clinical medicine and biomedical science, and one graduate program – clinical medicine, have been established, and graduate students are enrolled in biology at master and doctoral levels.

2. Faculty Resources 

The School of Medicine currently has 562 employees. Teachers have obtained about 160 talent titles at national, provincial or municipal level, and 58% of faculty members owns national talent titles.

3. Research Results 

The School of Medicine has established several laboratories, including four at provincial level, three at municipal level, and four at university level. In its short history, the school has achieved outstanding accomplishments in research, which continues to grow rapidly. As of September 2024, the school published 1881 articles, had 327 grants totaling over 274 million yuan.

4. Clinical teaching bases 

There are 10 hospitals tightly associated with the School of Medicine. They include four affiliated hospitals – First Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech, Second Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech, Hospital of SUSTech and the hospital at the main campus of SUSTech. Yantian Hospital of SUSTech  is a hospital jointly built by SUSTech and Yantian District. The school also jointly established the “Clinical Teaching Hospital of SUSTech” with Cancer Hospital (Shenzhen) of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Mental Health Center with Shenzhen Kangning Hospital. In addition, the School of Medicine has signed teaching and research collaboration agreements with Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, Shenzhen Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital, and Peking University Shenzhen Hospital. 

The affiliated hospitals have excellent faculty resources. There are 479 people with senior professional titles and 939 people with associate senior titles. There are 37 doctoral supervisors, 165 master supervisors, 375 postdoctoral fellows, and six persons subsidized by the National Science Fund for (Overseas) Excellent Young Scholars. There are 12 academic leaders holding vice-chairmanship or higher positions at various professional societies at the national level. The School of Medicine established a highly collaborative relationship of medicine, teaching, and research with affiliated hospitals. Specific clinical teaching and research offices and platforms have been started. Professional committees have been established, with the dean of the School of Medicine and the chief executives of the first and second affiliated hospitals as directors. The Master program of Clinical Medicine at SUSTech School of Medicine has been approved in 2021 and the application for a new doctoral program has been initiated.

 

Introduction to the SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management 

SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management was founded in April 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our school serve as an important deployment by SUSTech and Shenzhen Health Commission to address major global public health challenges, respond to the “Healthy China” Strategy, and address the fulfillment of people’s healthcare needs.

SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management was jointly established by SUSTech, the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Second Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech (National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases). The School of Public Health and Emergency Management is committed to building an integrated public health and emergency management education system with interdisciplinary studies in “medicine, education, research, prevention, and management”, which focus on disciplinary development in the Application of Big data, artificial intelligence in public health, preventive medicine, precision medicine and disease management, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Prevention and Control of Infectious and Emerging Infectious Diseases, Environmental Health, Nutrition and Food Safety, Chronic Disease Prevention and Smart Health Management, Microbiology for Public Health, and Public Health Emergency Management and Global Health.
