Job Description
Programming and audiences
-
Assist in building the museum’s design profile and reputation.
-
Expand the possibilities of the museum spaces as sites of learning.
-
Engage audiences from underrepresented backgrounds in design discussions.
-
Provide support and resources which promote equality and equity in design.
-
Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with students, universities and research organisations.
-
Forge new connections and long-term relationships with community groups.
Development and delivery
-
Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure that the programmes deliver to the museum’s priorities.

Identify and develop opportunities for collaboration with external organisations.
-
Effectively evaluate the programme’s performance to inform departmental strategy and meet targets.
-
Use digital platforms to effectively deliver programmes.
Sector knowledge, museum profile and advocacy
-
Be a public face of the Learning programmes.
-
Raise the profile of the museum by representing the museum.
-
Advocate for the programmes across the museum.
-
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of key contexts at government, regional and local level.
Programme management
-
Plan, set and meet financial targets / KPIs and manage associated budgets.

Prepare reports and feedback for senior leadership.

Directly deliver and/or manage the team that delivers the various areas of the programme.

Ensure health and safety of visitors, other staff and volunteers.
-
Negotiate contractual conditions when working in partnership on projects.

Recruit, train and supervise the project volunteer teams.
Departmental responsibilities

Represent Learning in the development of activities for the exhibition programme.
-
Deputise effectively for the Head of Learning, when required.
-
Effective line management of an Assistant Curator.
Job Requirements
Terms and conditions
Salary: up to £37,000 per annum, dependent on experience
Holidays: 25 days + Christmas eve (museum closed)
Hours: 35 hours per week/full time
Location: Design Museum Kensington is the place of work, with a hybrid arrangement of 60% of an employee’s role to be performed at the museum and 40% remote.
Special demands of the role: the role will work at times suited to needs of audiences, including evenings and weekends as required.
