Position Summary:

The Teaching Assistant will assist in weekly laboratory activities, which include identifying anatomical structures using pre-dissected cadaveric specimens (prosections) and anatomical models. Prior to each lab session, the Teaching Assistant will be responsible for familiarizing themselves with the content topics as well as answer questions from undergraduate course assistants. The Teaching Assistant is also responsible for the coordination of undergraduate course assistants, including organizing and running weekly practice bellringer questions (provided by Undergraduate Course Assistants), reinforcing the laboratory rules and code of conduct in the lab, as well as ensuring proper set-up and take-down in the lab. The Teaching Assistant will be involved in weekly laboratory instruction, working with Undergraduate Course Assistant-led groups of students to illustrate the gross anatomy of the visceral systems at an undergraduate level. Teaching Assistant will assist in set up, implementation and grading of the course assessments. The Teaching Assistant, in liaison with the course instructor and Anatomy Lab support staff, is required to coordinate and assign duties to undergraduate course assistants, including collecting and compiling the weekly practice questions written by the Undergraduate Course Assistants.

Lectures will take place Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:35 am – 9:25 am. Labs are scheduled for Thursdays 9:35 am – 11:25 am and Fridays 10:35 am – 12:25 pm. 

Qualifications:

Must have experience working with human cadaveric samples, with past experience with cadaveric dissection strongly preferred. Must have previously studied gross anatomy related to the head and neck, thoracic, abdominal and pelvic anatomy, for example through successful completion of ANAT 316, ANAT 214, or another course equivalent. Holding a past course assistant position in ANAT 316/214 is a strong asset. Must have demonstrated leadership skills in supervising and guiding undergraduate students to foster a productive and inclusive learning environment. Must have proven organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining accuracy, safety, and inclusivity in all aspects of teaching and administrative responsibilities.

Effective communication skills in English (spoken and written) are essential.
