Description:

Full-time position available for a teacher assistant in Indian Prairie School District 204 to perform duties to work with assigned students or with groups of students to ensure students’ learning and behavioral objectives and transport to community learning settings, which may include the following:

Job Summary:

  1. Apply lesson modifications as directed and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed to ensure that learning objectives are met.
  2. Prompt, cue and redirect students to keep on task.
  3. Administer curriculum-based tests/quizzes.
  4. Ensure students record assignments, have correct materials and completed assignments for class as appropriate for student needs.
  5. Take notes of curriculum presented during class as appropriate for student needs.
  6. Provide physical care as needed: diaper, toilet, feed, reinforce adaptive PE/motor activities per instructions from teacher and/or therapist(s); assist, as needed, with independent living skills; employee may have to use physical ability to lift students and perform other manipulations
  7. Employee is regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  8. Must be able to read and speak English sufficient to communicate with students and staff and to assist students with instruction.
  9. Observe and document student behaviors; communicate activities to teacher and facilitators.
  10. Participate in weekly team meeting to review student progress and plan upcoming lessons.
  11. Assist with non-instructional activities.
  12. Assists in maintaining safety, behavior, decorum, and order in common areas including the lunchroom, playground, corridors, and other school facilities.
  13. Retrieve students from busses at the start of classes and escort students to appropriate busses at end of classes when required.
  14. Record and update student’s progress toward achievement of individual educational plan.
  15. Transport students on District busses to community learning settings.
  16. Complete licensure procedures required by Illinois DMV to transport students.
  17. Use personal computer and general office equipment. Demonstrate proficiency using the technology and computer-based programs provided by the District. Use these programs to effectively manage and organize files, communication, records and databases.

Qualifications:

To be considered for a position as a teacher assistant, applicants MUST have an NCLB paraprofessional approval. Those with either a valid Illinois teaching or substitute certificate are exempt from obtaining the approval.

For those without the above, applicants must meet at least one of the four requirements: 1. 60 semester hours of college-level credit; or 2. Completed paraprofessional training program approved by ISBE or ICCB; or 3. Passed ETS ParaPro assessment (460 or higher); or 4. Passed WorkKeys assessments (Applied Mathematics-4, Reading for Information-4, Writing/Business Writing-3, and Acceptable on Instructional Support Inventory). Valid driving license and completion of licensure procedures required by DMV to transport students.

Rate of pay: $16.48/hour

Working Conditions: High School, Post-secondary settings. Bus and/or van driving.
