Classification Summary:
Responsible for the supervision of the practitioner staff and ancillary clinical staff (lab director, pharmacy manager and nurse supervisor) for the Student Health Center and oversees the provision of quality medical care. The Medical Director is the liaison between the practitioner staff and the Assistant Vice President for Student Health & Wellness.
Classification Standard Duties:
Responsible for the administrative oversight of the practitioner/ancillary staff (lab, pharmacy, nursing). Serve on university and peer review committees. Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Requirements: Required Education: MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine or Nurse Practitioner Required Experience: Minimum of 5 years of post-residency clinical practice for MD or 5 years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner and 3 years of supervisory experience; experience in college health or managing young adult patients preferred Equivalency :None; Required Certification/License: NM licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as an MD or DO or as a Nurse Practitioner (CNP, FNP or DNP) in the State of New Mexico
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise. Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage. Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise. ; SKILLS:Effective verbal and written communication skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
ADMINISTRATION & SUPERVISION: 30%
Responsible for the hiring, training, credentialing/privileging, supervision, and evaluation of the practitioner staff and ancillary clinical staff (lab, pharmacy and nursing) for the Aggie Health & Wellness Center (AHWC) and oversees the provision of quality medical care.
Provides strategic direction for medical services with special attention to collegiate health trends and serves on multiple committees to include peer reviews, quality improvement, medical records, IRB, and CARE. The Director of Medical Services facilitates the Quality Improvement (QI) process, policy reviews and revisions. As a member of the AHWC leadership team, the director serves as the official medical liaison for the Aggie Health & Wellness Center and community, state, and federal agencies.
