General Education Faculty – Humanities/Fine Arts/English

JOB SUMMARY

General Education Faculty is responsible for implementing, revising, and evaluating the assigned program’s curriculum according to state standards and the college’s approved curriculum. This role involves efficiently utilizing all resources within the assigned curricular area and providing up-to-date skills and knowledge to meet student needs and industry demands. The faculty member’s competence ensures that students achieve maximum technical, academic, and personal benefits from the teaching and learning process.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Plans a program of study that as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of students, and at the same time meets the state standards.
  • Plans and implements a Safety Plan;
  • Assists student advisement such that students are provided with timely, accurate and comprehensive information regarding career choices, career preparation, job opportunities, and other occupational information;
  • Guides the learning process toward clear curriculum goals, and objectives for all lessons and communicates these objectives to all students;
  • Demonstrates a willingness to be of service and exhibits pleasant and courteous behavior toward customers (students, parents, employers, media), organizational co-workers and other public contacts;
  • Develops appropriate course syllabi and lesson plans, and organizes daily classes utilizing a variety of creative/innovative techniques which can be accomplished within the allotted time;
  • Instructs students in appropriate safety precautions and establishes standards of conduct;
  • Evaluates each student’s performance, knowledge, and skill in subject/course being taught on a regular basis and provides timely feedback to students;
  • Prepares and maintains progress reports on each student for skill and knowledge in each subject/course on a regular basis;
  • Maintains a record of student attendance;
  • Maintains required classroom and academic supply inventory for area of responsibility through acquisition and proper storage;
  • Maintains required classroom and academic supply inventory records;
  • Maintains accurate, complete records as required by law and administrative regulations;
  • Meets departmental and divisional deadlines for all required academic forms and documents; 
  • Prepares and is prompt for assigned classes and is able to show written evidence of preparation upon request by supervisor(s);
  • Refers students with learning disabilities to other professionals and specialists as required;
  • Plans and participates in recruiting activities according to college procedures;
  • Maintains professional competence through required academic currency, refresher involvement, preparation for academic relevancy and advancement, and the development of an annual staff development plan. Membership and/or participation in student and professional organizations are encouraged, required when necessary for accreditation or state law for instructional position held by faculty member;
  • Understands and exhibits conduct which builds team, unit and institutional spirit and credibility;
  • Recognizes and actively promotes a positive image of the college and its programs which contribute to the public information and public relations and marketing efforts of the college;
  • Demonstrates innovation, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills;
  • Promotes excellence and advancement of student aspirations and potential;
  • Supports and works toward institutional vision, mission, and goals;
  • Adheres to and carries out the procedures of the college;
  • Understands and adheres to the components of the annual faculty evaluation instrument;
  • Reviews class needs and concerns with adjunct faculty and assists dean with resolving; 
  • Adheres to and carries out State Board policies and procedures as well as procedures of the college;
  • Faculty with responsibilities for student and campus activity beyond the classroom serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by The Clery Act, forward reports of crimes to the Campus Police Department, and participate in annual CSA training;
  • Participates in assessment, planning, budgeting, and staff development;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the teaching discipline or a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours (30 graduate quarter hours) in the teaching discipline).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
