EVENT INFORMATION:

We’re looking to fill the following positions at the hiring event:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) NOW OFFERING A SIGN ON BONUS OF $4,000! 
  • Health Care Technician I NOW OFFERING SIGN-ON BONUS OF $1,500
  • Health Care Technician II NOW OFFERING SIGN-ON BONUS OF $2,000!
  • Registered Nurse (RN) NOW OFFERING A SIGN ON BONUS OF $10,000!

Licensed Practical Nurse position provides routine licensed practical nursing work in the care and treatment of patients, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, within a state correctional facility. Responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients, within the scope of practice to include, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Screening.
  • Observing and assessing patients.
  • Providing basic wound care and personal care to patients.
  • Delivering routine respiratory therapy and other treatments, catheter and colostomy care, collecting vital signs and specimens.
  • Preparing and administering medications Administering/interpreting TB skin tests.
  • Observing and recording pertinent patient information Responding to emergencies.
  • Assisting the Registered Nurse and Physician as required.

Health Care Technician I position general responsibilities include the following, depending upon specific position details: 

  • Assist RNs, LPNs and HCTIIs in providing care, treatment and services within their scope of practice, such as obtaining vital signs, weight, height, preparing the patient for examination, etc. as trained and within the scope of practice.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, clothing, toileting, turning and repositioning, ambulation.
  • Transport patients safely using appropriate means.
  • Observing patients and reporting observations to the nurse.
  • The NAI will collect label specimens such as blood, urine, feces and sputum as trained within scope of practice.
  • Changing linens and making beds.
  • Keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
  • Engage in therapeutic activities with patients such as group therapies and recreational activities in mental health.

Health Care Technician II position general responsibilities include the following, depending upon specific position details:

  • Assist RNs and LPNs in providing care, treatment and services within their scope of practice, such as obtaining vital signs, weight, height, preparing the patient for examination, etc. as trained and within the scope of practice.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, clothing, toileting, turning and repositioning, ambulation.
  • Transport patients safely using appropriate means.
  • Observing patients and reporting observations to the nurse.
  • The NAII will collect lab specimens such as blood, urine, feces and sputum as trained within scope of practice. Changing linens and making beds.
  • Keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
  • Engage in therapeutic activities with patients such as group therapies and recreational activities in mental health.
  • All aspects of medication administration to include transcribing orders, ordering and storing medications and supplies, administering medication and treatments, documentation of medication administration and treatment, observing and reporting medication effectiveness, side effects and reinforcing patient education provided by the nurse and/or physician.

Registered Nurse position provides:

  • Professional nursing care/treatment to patients in accordance with medical protocols, written policies and procedures, and the NC Board of Nursing scope of practice.
  • Work includes conducting sick call/assessment, assisting the physician, carrying out orders, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care.
  • Position responds to medical emergencies, monitors for communicable diseases, counsels for compliance with diet, medications and treatment; responds to inquiries, medical appointments, orders medications and supplies, and additional nursing care duties, as required.
  • Position requires oversight of LPN and CNA I/II staff, as designated by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for these positions. We will not review resumes in lieu of Experience and Education listed on the application.

To qualify for these positions, applicants must document on the application that they possess the following:

RN

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing principles and techniques to include physical assessments, clinical judgments, treatment planning and evaluation.

LPN

  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional nursing and skills attendant to its practice. 

HCT I

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of nursing methods and techniques in caring for medical, surgical and/or mentally ill patients. 

HCT II

  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing care skills appropriate to its practice.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN):

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina. If possess a single state RN license from a state other than NC, must apply and receive at a minimum a “temporary license” to practice in NC prior to hire date.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):

Must be licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in North Carolina or in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. If possess a single state LPN license from a state other than NC, must apply and receive at a minimum a “temporary license” to practice in NC prior to hire date.

Health Care Technician I:

High School or General Educational Development diploma (GED) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Condition for Continued Employment:

Listing as a Nurse Aide I by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation or certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Emergency Medical Technician – Basic, or Phlebotomy certification or coursework or completion of an equivalent credential or program.

Health Care Technician II:

High School or General Educational Development diploma and one (1) year of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Condition for Continued Employment:

Listing as a Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation or certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or completion of an equivalent credential or program. NOTE: If you are an EMT, please attach an unofficial transcript to show completion of these courses.

They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
