The Rossier School of Education is seeking a part-time instructor/student-teaching supervisor in teacher education for an on-ground course meeting in the Spring Term, 2025: EDUC677-Applications of Curriculum and Pedagogy in Urban Secondary English Classrooms, Part B. The class meets on the USC campus from 5-7:30 pm either Tuesday or Wednesday, the weeks of January 13 – April 28, 2025. Spring Recess takes place the week of March 16-23.
The course is designed for candidates to apply content knowledge of ELA using pedagogical approaches that promote complex, rigorous, and appropriately challenging learning. The courses’ goals are to engage secondary students in competencies in ELA to facilitate instruction that enables learners to become collaborative and independent problem-solvers, as well as critical and creative thinkers. Equity pedagogy frames the courses as an Enduring Understanding that Eurocentric approaches to planning, teaching, and assessing should be reframed to include perspectives and knowledge reflecting the diversity of US public school students. Instructors are expected to engage teacher candidates in planning curriculum and lessons, instructing secondary students for engaged learning, assessing students, and engaging in critical reflective practice to deepen understanding of the relationship between teaching and learning. Instructors will also coach students in their licensure exam for a California credential, Cal TPA Cycle 2. The courses meet weekly for 2.5 hours of instruction in curriculum and pedagogy for secondary Language Arts (ELA) teacher candidates. In addition to the weekly course meetings and other expected duties of teaching a graduate course, instructors:
- Meet weekly for one hour with the course coordinator and other faculty teaching this course to ensure alignment across all sections of the courses.
- View teacher-candidates classroom videos (as their student-teacher instructor) to guide more effective pedagogy, aligned with the course goals (see above) and USC Rossier’s Mission Statement.
- Communicate regularly with teacher candidates via email, zoom meetings, and phone.
- Assess teacher-candidate assignments.
- Communicate and meet with teacher-candidate fieldwork teachers (guiding teachers) a minimum of three times for the semester.
Qualifications include:
- Three years of teaching experience in a secondary English Language Arts classroom, preferably in a high-needs school.
- Ability to use online technology (Zoom Classroom) and Brightspace, a learning management system (LMS).

Adjunct Faculty: USC reserves the “Adjunct Faculty” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty may teach one class each semester (summer, fall and spring).
The base salary range for this position is $9,707- $12,480 per course.
