Lead biostatistical and data science initiatives at the cutting edge of cancer research.
The Senior Biostatistician and Data Science Lead will spearhead statistical analyses and data-driven approaches to accelerate research at SAiGENCI.
This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in biostatistics and data science to ground-breaking cancer research. You will lead a dynamic team, collaborate with world-class researchers, and contribute to the development of innovative computational methods that could transform cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The South Australian immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI) is establishing a Data Science Unit to accelerate discoveries in cancer research through data analysis and modelling. Working closely with researchers and fostering connections to cooperative research centres, national and international networks, this is a career defining opportunity to shape the direction of data science initiatives at SAiGENCI. To be successful you will need:
- PhD in Biostatistics or an equivalent field, with an understanding of bioinformatics and associated biology and a track record of collaborative publications.
- Demonstrated expertise in standard clinical biostatistics as well as multi-omics data integration, and proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., R, Python).
- A strong willingness to collaborate in the development and application of innovative computational methods, including machine learning and AI approaches, to cancer research problems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a small team of computational biologists and/or data scientists, including experience in supervising HDR students, while fostering a collaborative, cross-disciplinary, and high-functioning research environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with wet-lab researchers, clinicians, and computational scientists, as well as explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
