The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an academic colorectal surgeon to join the Department of Surgery. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) along with The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery within the Department of Surgery is looking to hire an exceptional colorectal surgeon with broad colorectal surgery and academic interests. The candidate will join the Division of Colorectal Surgery as part of an outstanding multidisciplinary team. This position is full-time and will be based at Ohio State University-East Hospital and outpatient clinics with responsibilities including clinical and surgical care, education, and research. The position offers tremendous clinical opportunities, the potential for professional and programmatic development, and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Requirements
- Board Certified in General and Colon and Rectal Surgery
- At least 3 years of clinical experience is preferred, but not required
- Demonstration of leadership experience
- Qualify for an academic appointment at the assistant or associate professor level – Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience
The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery
The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is led by Division Director, Dr. Matthew Kalady, and includes 9 surgeons, 9 nurse practitioners, and 2 colorectal surgery fellows. Rotating general surgery residents and medical students are also a crucial part of our team. The Division concentrates efforts on clinical care, research, and education related to patients with malignant and benign diseases. We believe the highest-quality care results from a combination of focused knowledge and a breadth of treatment options. We work closely with our colleagues in other fields to provide multidisciplinary, coordinated care so that we approach each person as a whole. Our primary goal is to provide accessible, timely, and top-notch patient care. The Division resides within the Department of Surgery, led by Dr. Timothy Pawlik, and a broad array of clinical, research, and educational opportunities. The department is home to multiple R01-funded researchers, three training grants, and is consistently ranked in the Top 20 Blue Ridge Rankings for NIH funding among departments of surgery nationally. The general surgery program is among the top ten in the nation.
The Ohio State East Hospital blends academic medicine with a community-based setting in a comprehensive outpatient facility and 190- bed hospital. The Ohio State East Hospital has earned “2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence” from HealthGrades, a Leapfrog “A” grade for patient safety, and Primary Stroke Center certification from the Joint Commission. Ohio State’s East Hospital Emergency Department is the first ED in central Ohio to receive the Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award. This award recognizes exceptional patient care and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.
The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center has over 1,300 patient beds, performs over 44,000 surgeries per year, and has over 1.7 million annual outpatient visits. Established in 1914, the Ohio State Department of Surgery has a long and respected tradition of excellence in clinical care, research and education. The Department of Surgery is composed of nine surgical specialty divisions and seven centers. Collectively, the Department of Surgery performs over 21,000 cases annually and was ranked in the top 10 according to the Blue Ridge rankings for NIH funding among surgery departments nationally. Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
