Position Information Gulyangarri Public School opened at the beginning of 2024. It is located adjacent to Liverpool Boys and Liverpool Girls High Schools in the Liverpool CBD. The school’s name comes from Darug language and translates to children in English. The word gulyangarri highlights the importance of children being at the centre of all that we do. 

The school is being delivered in two stages, with the first stage catering for 580 students including four support classes and preschool for up to 40 children. Current enrolment is 252 students Preschool to Year 6 and 87% have a language background other than English. There are ten mainstream classes, four support classes and two preschool classes.

The school is designed to support high quality teaching and learning for students from diverse cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds. An emphasis on explicit teaching and strong character development lays the foundation for student success. Strong partnerships with the community are developing as the school establishes itself in the community.

Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach K-6 and approval to teach primary English as a second language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a second language K-6 as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.

Demonstrated ability to design and implement responsive, evidence-based programs that support the language and cultural demands of the curriculum.

Well-developed interpersonal skills that enable effective collaboration with a range of stakeholders to ensure students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including refugee and new arrival students, are supported.

Strong understanding of and ability to mentor staff in the use of the EAL/D Learning Progression and ESL Scales.

Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Special Notes Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.

If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a second language (K-6 or secondary) as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 12 months.
