General Description:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for production duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Production Supervisor does this by planning, directing, and coordinating the work activities and resources necessary for processing Extended Shelf Life (ESL) products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications. The Production Supervisor also assists in directing the production team in accomplishing specified tasks set by plant management and assists in the training personnel aligned with plant protocol. The Production Supervisor completes these functions in the support of the manufacture of dairy-related products.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for achieving assigned goals in the area of production, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
  2. Meets all production operational plans to ensure goals and efficiency requirements are met.
  3. Monitors conditions that have or will adversely affect production lines including interruption of plant utility service and bring to the attention of senior shift leadership.
  4. Monitor the status of production lines. Assess current vs planned status of production output. Coordinate maintenance activities as necessary to eliminate delays/interruptions/stoppages.
  5. Ensure all required documentation is thoroughly completed, signed off, and properly filled out/legible.
  6. Notify others of mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity and equipment capabilities and begins to identify areas where operators can assist in resolving concerns
  7. Responsible for complying with GMP’s, SOP’s, corporate and/or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
  8. Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments – verbally and in writing.
  9. Communicate with the plant leadership on any potential or existing problems that could adversely affect the production schedule or customer satisfaction.
  10. Covers breaks and lunches and other staffing needs as assigned by their supervisor/manager.
  11. Compliant with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety reports concerns appropriately.
  12. Oversees the training of production personnel on production equipment, protocol, and systems.
  13. Audit the work of production personnel to ensure accuracy, quality, and work completed in a timely fashion.
  14. Assist in interviewing and selection process of the production team; responsible for timely and engaging performance evaluations; administering appropriate corrective actions as pre-approved by HR.
  15. Assist management with employee developmental plans, documents, and administers, in order to ensure a department that sustains a customer focus, flexibility, and strong business acumen.
  16. Develops new ideas and methods to improve operational performance and improve product quality and customer reliability.
  17. Supervise production team by leading by example to gain trust and integrity and handle employee inquiries and solve problems while maintaining confidentiality.
  18. Assist and support all areas in the production facility as assigned by supervisor and trains and builds competence of staff on key areas on the manufacturing floor.
  19. Compliant with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety on their assigned shift and reports concerns.
  20. Works in a safe manner and reports safety concerns promptly to their supervisor/lead and takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
  21. Responsible for reporting food safety problems and initiating action and for supporting SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
  22. Maintain compliance with SQF certification and GMP expectations.
  23. Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adhere to sanitation practices.

Essential Knowledge, Skills:

  1. Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and knowledge of weights and measure, to sufficiently handle job tasks.
  2. Understand and respond appropriately to basic and complex, employee, vendor, and customer inquiries.
  3. Read, write and communicate using the English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need).
  4. Knowledge of the company’s mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving each of them.
  5. Promote and provide excellent Customer Service with both Customer and Byrne Dairy in mind.
  6. Knowledge and ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area,
  7. Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
  8. Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information.
  9. Knowledge of general computer functions such as Microsoft Office programs, spreadsheets, etc.
  10. Knowledge of principles, methods, and problems of operating business functions
  11. Skill to actively seek out and identify opportunities.
  12. Ability to trust, develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support.
  13. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written to all levels in and outside the company.
  15. Knowledge and proficiency in the inventory management system and other systems.
  16. Knowledge of applicable PMO and internal operating guidelines for quality, including OSHA, SQF, and other regulatory entity protocols and regulations.
  17. Knowledge to implement and support various change management activities is needed to improve the organizations’ effectiveness.
  18. Ability to apply Critical Thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  19. Ability to understand and explain product flow from raw silos through batching to the filling equipment.

Education/Experience:

  1. Minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  2. Minimum of 3+ years direct manufacturing experience; dairy industry experience preferred

Performance Standards:

  1. Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor/Manager prior to the occurrence.
  2. Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work.
  3. Responsible for being well-groomed and dressed in a business-and position-appropriate attire at all times including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards.
  4. Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures, and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
  5. Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
  6. Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
  7. Responsible for supervising and leading by example, while providing motivational support to recognize and reward people for their achievements.
  8. Responsible for maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
  9. Responsible for providing guidance for coworkers as needed or as requested.

Work Schedule:

  1. Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on the assigned shift.
  2. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by the Supervisor/Manager.
  3. Hourly: Generally scheduled for 36-48 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.

Environmental Concerns:

  1. Normally protected from weather and temperature changes possible exposure to hot cold wet, humid or windy weather conditions does exist.
  2. May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens
  3. May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.

Physical Job Requirements:

  1. Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building.
  2. Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  3. Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
  4. Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  5. Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
