Political Science Faculty (Full-time, Tenure Track)

Position description

John A. Logan College, a community college located in southern Illinois, is dedicated to enriching lives through learning and community engagement. We are seeking a dynamic and versatile full-time, tenure-track Political Science faculty member to join the Department of Communication, Humanities, and Social Sciences for the Fall 2025 semester. We encourage applications from individuals with single or multiple curricular competencies, with a preference for candidates qualified to teach across disciplines. This position may be a combined position with a secondary teaching discipline, such as History or Sociology.

Education & Experience Requirements

Education required: Master’s degree in Political Science.

Education preferred: Master’s degree or higher with 18 graduate hours in more than one discipline. 

Experience required: The ability to communicate effectively and have basic computer literacy. 

Experience preferred:

• Experience in post-secondary teaching, particularly at a community college.
• Experience in teaching in multiple instructional modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, hyflex).
• Experience in curriculum development.

Essential Functions & Position Duties

• Foster and promote a collegial atmosphere, prioritizing student learning and success.
• Develop new courses that cater to the needs of the diverse student population and adapt to the evolving educational landscape.
• Fulfill contractual obligations covering the academic year, consisting of fall and spring semesters.
• Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester and hold eight office hours per week for student consultation during fall and spring semesters. Additional teaching opportunities with compensation may be available in the summer semester.
• Be available to teach classes during the day, evenings, and/or weekends as per the schedule of classes.
• Full-time faculty members are provided with private offices and have access to excellent support services.

Non-essential functions of the position

• Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.
