Main purpose of job:
Setting the strategic direction for local communications
- You will strengthen collaboration with other teams in the Consulate, internal and stakeholders to ensure communications are tailored to local audiences and support long-term goals;
- You will be responsible for growing strategic partnerships to increase our reach and maximise the impact of our public diplomacy activity on and offline;
- Acting as the British Government’s spokesperson in East China, you will be the authority on the latest developments in UK-China relations.
Overseeing the development and delivery of public diplomacy campaigns and activities
- You will lead on the UK’s soft power activities to increase UK-China engagement and understanding;
- You will develop and deliver public campaigns across a range of digital and traditional media relevant to the local context and in line with national campaigns;
- You will manage our network of local media and publicity partners to increase the impact of our public diplomacy activities.
- You will measure the results and analyse the effectiveness of our campaigns and activities
Engagement with the media including building relationships, fielding enquiries and overseeing delivery of visits
- You will understand local media organisations and how they operate to maximise positive coverage of the UK and of Consulate-General business.
- You will lead on media events for the Consulate-General and high-profile visitors, including press conferences, interviews and media briefings;
- You will produce high quality press releases and background materials for the media;
- You will be the main point of contact for International media based in East China.
Team-management and leadership within the British Government’s China Communications Network
- You will inspire an integrated, happy and high performing communications team to be ambitious and support each other to reach their full potential;
- You will coordinate with counterparts in the Beijing Embassy and other Consulates to promote UK objectives in China.

Benefits:

- A gross salary of CNY 29,488 for Chinese Nationals and an abated salary of CNY 38,425 for British Nationals and spouses/partners of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria;

- 22 days annual leave entitlement in pro-rata which increases by 0.5 per full calendar year worked up to maximum of 25 days. We offer different types of compulsory leave in accordance to Chinese law, e.g. Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Marriage Leave, Parental leave, etc.

Working Patterns:
35 hours of work per week from Monday to Friday, 08:00-17:00. There will be occasions that require you work outside normal hours.
Other Information:
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment and security checks. Staff who are locally recruited by the British Embassy/Consulate General are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Chinese employment law.
