Spring Institute’s Adult Education & Career Pathways program is seeking
experienced ESL Instructors to join the team! The program serves adult
immigrants and refugees through English language instruction and career
coaching. Classes take place in community settings in partnership with local
organizations, such as Aurora Public Schools.
ESL Instructors are responsible for:
– designing and delivering engaging English lessons, relevant to learners’
lives
– creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment in a multicultural
setting
– using diverse teaching techniques such as interactive activities, group
discussions, multimedia resources, and technology
– planning lessons focused on all four strands of language learning:
speaking, listening, reading and writing
– checking student comprehension using formal and informal styles of
assessment
ESL Instructors require adaptability and flexibility. Instructional approaches
must be tailored to meet the diverse needs of adult learners.

Requirements:
– Post-secondary degree or formal credential in TESOL, Education, English,
or a related field
– Instructional experience helping adult learners develop English language
skills
– Experience working with refugees, employing cultural competence and
sensitivity
– Experience using performance standards, curriculum, lesson plans, and
assessments for adult learners (example: CASAS Steps Reading Assessment,
– National Reporting System for adult education, Common European Framework of
Reference, etc.)
– Familiarity with current methodologies and best practices in English
language
acquisition
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
– Ability to use technology for instructional purposes, communication, and
record keeping (example: GSuite products, Padlet, Zoom, etc.)
Preferred Abilities:
– Familiarity with government-issued funding for adult education (example:
the Adult Education and Literacy Act grant (AELA))
– Skilled in facilitating differentiated instruction
– Experience teaching adults digital skills
– Experience career coaching or providing resource navigation to immigrants
and
refugees
Compensation: $27-30/hour for planning and instruction;
$20-25/hour for attending meetings
Status: Part-time, hourly
This is a term limited position, the continuation of the position depends on
the availability of funds.
To be eligible for hire: must be able to pass a background check, must
have U.S. work authorization, must have a driver’s license
