Main purpose of job:
To repair and maintain official fleet vehicles of the British Deputy High Commission, Karachi. Category of vehicles include 4×4 vehicles both armoured and soft skin, as well as well salon cars and motorbikes. As mechanic, you will play a key role in keeping these vehicles roadworthy. In doing so, you will ensure that the maintenance is conducted in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook, governed by the UK standards.
We reserve the right to review, revise or amend the roles and responsibilities from time to time reflecting the changing needs of business.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
- Oversee “Daily vehicle checks” conducted by drivers to ensure any faults reported are looked at with priority.
- Maintain “Vehicle Service History”, ensure all maintenance conducted is recorded promptly.
- Conduct Pre-Trip Inspection of vehicles prior to commencement of any field trip, record findings on file.
- Conduct six monthly and yearly safety inspection/repair of the vehicles and keep the record file up to date.
- Conduct scheduled service intervals, 5000 KM or 6 Months, accurate record must be kept in Service History.
- Job holder must hold a valid driver’s licence.
- Job holder will be required to use vehicle diagnostic scanner and read and rectify DTCs.
- Ensure all Tools and Equipment are kept serviceable, up to date inventory of items in the Garage.
- Cover Chief Mechanic in absence.
- Outdoor activity including buying parts and equipment for vehicles and garage.
Job Holder will be expected and should be able to work independently on the following.
- Overhaul engines for Toyota Land Cruiser, 200 Series VDJ200 V8 Engines.
- Transmission System
- Service Braking systems.
- Suspension Systems.
- Transaxle System
- Electrical System
- Air-Conditioning System.
- Conduct test drives to verify vehicle serviceability requirements.
- Exhaust System including DPF.
- Intake System including EGR.
The above list is not exhaustive, you will be expected to work on other tasks as well and could be asked to come in on short notice outside of working hours, including over weekends, if needed.

Essentials On Arrival:
- At least five years of experience in maintaining and repairing armoured and soft-skin vehicles. Must hold an In-depth knowledge of engine mechanics. Experienced in working on Toyota vehicles will be given priority.
- Good knowledge about vehicle electrical modules and should be able to use Diagnostic Scanners.
- Experienced in working with a high performing organisation, equipped to handle challenging demands and meet tight targets.
- Adequate English language skill, should be able to read, write and express in English.
- Certificate of competency in Automobile Engineering from a recognised institute in Pakistan or abroad.
- Must holds a valid driver’s licence with ability to drive heavy vehicles.
- Must have IT skills, should be able to use computer and access emails.
The required skills and qualifications would be assessed through a test, which would be conducted during the hiring process.

For BHC candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.
For other than BHC candidates the basic salary will be PKR 98,951 per month. This salary is non-negotiable.
Please note that the current salaries are being dollarized and processed in USD (using a fixed corporate exchange rate from November 2022) to provide cushion against the current external market conditions. This is a temporary measure and is subject to review at regular intervals. The payroll will revert to local currency processing once the external market conditions are normalised.
