The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Maintenance Technician (Electrician) under the Technical Works Group (TWG), job grade S1, on a fixed-term contract of one (1) year.
The jobholder will be responsible for all routine maintenance, repairs, and minor works projects on the British Embassy estate in Riyadh, comprising of offices, residential accommodation, amenities, and grounds. Working within a small team of directly employed artisans and local contractors, you will ensure that all facilities are operated and maintained in accordance with relevant technical and health & safety standards.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks for essential building services, plant, and equipment including: split air conditioning, package A/C units and AHUs; standby generators; fire protection systems; water services; swimming pools and associated water treatment plant; security gates/ vehicle barriers etc., external security lighting.
- Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to be scheduled and actioned in a timely manner in line with policy.
- Support Corporate Services in sourcing external quotes and related documents for maintenance works where required and liaise with external contractors when on site.
- Completion of maintenance and minor works tasks, according to technical discipline under the direction of the Technical Works Supervisor (TWS).
- Work within a small team of technicians on day-to-day basis, ensuring that the maintenance programme is kept up to date.
- General oversight of the compound.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager and Senior Management. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as and when required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Eligibility:
The position is available to Saudi nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqama. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.

- Holds a recognised trade qualification, ideally in electrical/ electrical maintenance, plus a further qualification at diploma level.
- Relevant experience in electrical maintenance and/ or installation in a commercial environment.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly.
- Highly organised and able to deal with challenging situations. Demonstrates flexibility to manage and prioritise day-to-day tasks and ad-hoc or emergency requests.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.
Monthly salary details:
- Base Salary – SAR 5,417.28
- Housing Allowance – SAR 1,354.32 (subject to eligibility)*
- Travel Allowance – SAR 500.00 (subject to eligibility)*
- Total – SAR 7,271.60
* Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependants of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is full-time, based on 48 hours per week. Normal working hours for this role are from 08:00 to 16:00 from Saturday to Thursday. The successful candidate should also be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours.
The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy’s sponsorship.
