Specialty Doctor in Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics – 5.75 PAs, Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Community Paediatric and Neuro-disability teams at Sheffield Children’s. We are looking for a Specialty Doctor to help expand our neurodevelopmental services. Applicants wanting to work less than 5.75 PAs are encouraged to apply.

You’ll be part of a team providing out-patient assessments and ongoing care for children and young people where there are concerns around development, neurodevelopmental conditions, challenging behaviour, learning, emotional wellbeing or other vulnerabilities.

Additionally, you will provide health assessments clinics for children looked after, adult medical assessment reviews for foster carers and prospective adopters and community clinics.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Clinical Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:

Fixed commitments include:

  • CLAHS clinic (including initial health assessments, adoption medicals, and adult medicals)
  • Community paediatric clinic
  • Participate in weekly CPD/training and team meetings

Additional commitments include:

  • Support the supervision and teaching of trainees and medical students, while working with partner agencies, including education, social care, and local authority teams, to provide education to colleagues across these sectors
  • Offer medical advice for education, health, and care planning, and provide telephone advice to professionals and families.
  • Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings, take an active role in clinical governance and audit activities, and contribute to service improvement and development plans.
  • Maintain your continuous professional development

Qualification and Training

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full registration with GMC with licence to practice
  • Clinical training relevant to Paediatrics

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or other higher degree
  • DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas
  • MRCPCH, MRCGP or equivalent
  • Sheffield Neurodisability MSc

Experience

Essential

  • Postgraduate training, including in paediatrics or relevant specialty
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Experience of safeguarding children

Desirable

  • Experience in other areas relevant to Community Child Health e.g. General Practice, paediatric neurodisability including assessment and management of children with social communication disorders, child mental health, public health
  • Experience of working with looked-after, and children being considered for adoption

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with colleagues from other disciplines and agencies
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative but with awareness of own limitations
  • Positive attitude to supervision and ability to act on feedback
  • Evidence of competence in and contribution to clinical audit and clinical governance
  • Effective time management and administration skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to keep clear, legible, contemporaneous written and electronic records

  • Thorough understanding of clinical governance and risk
  • Education qualification, specific training in education, supervision and/or appraisal
