The Company’s Total Rewards package is at or above industry levels. The expected base salary range for this position is between 150,320.00 USD – 197,295.00 USD. Job related skills, experience, education, and location will be considered in setting actual starting base salary. In addition to your base salary and depending on job level, eligibility, and performance, a total package may include profit sharing, a short-term incentive and/or long-term incentives. ABOUT THE ROLE

As Director, Federal Government Relations, you will be primarily responsible for supporting SC Johnson’s efforts to influence U.S. public policy impacting the company’s business, products, and operations, and for building and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of government stakeholders, in addition to others who may influence public policies of interest to the company. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for supporting SC Johnson’s government relations program, primarily at the U.S. federal level. The individual will work closely with department leadership to advance the company’s public policy priorities, especially related to plastic waste, and optimize the company’s profile and visibility with policymakers

  • In support of achieving business objectives, the role requires monitoring and researching federal legislation and regulation (with particular emphasis on EPA, FDA) impacting the company, evaluating these impacts with input from business units, and assisting with development and implementation of strategies to protect and promote company interests or reputation. This involves working closely with business teams and various functions across the company (e.g., Regulatory Affairs, Public Affairs, Law, RD&E, Sustainability, Human Resources, Product Supply) on a range of projects and initiatives

  • The individual will be actively engaged in the work of SC Johnson’s U.S.-based trade associations (including NAM, HCPA, ACI, PCPC, and FCA) by representing company interests and helping drive industry alignment on issues affecting the company

  • This role also manages administration of the company’s federal political action committee (SCJPAC), to include developing candidate contribution recommendations and annual fundraising solicitations, representing the company at political fundraising events, and managing all federal and state compliance-related activities

  • As needed, this role may also perform similar legislative and regulatory functions in support of SC Johnson’s business and public policy agenda in Canada through interaction with industry trade associations and Canadian government officials at federal and provincial levels

  • Additionally, the individual will be expected to participate in SC Johnson’s visible presences in Washington, DC, including attending public events, social functions, and political events, and working to cultivate and maintain effective relationships on behalf of the company with key officials, agencies and thought leaders in Washington, DC

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, business, international relations, communications, government affairs or related field with 10+ years of experience in U.S. Congress, corporate government relations, or related-industry trade association

  • Thorough understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Progressive government or advocacy experience, ideally in the consumer and household goods industry

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Familiarity with operation of political action committees, including compliance measures

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Full Time onsite in Washington DC

  • Travel Time expected: <10%

  • Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees

  • This role is eligible for domestic relocation
