Position Description:
The Department of Diagnosis and Oral Health at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry is seeking two full-time dental hygienist faculty members to teach in the dental program. The successful candidate will be responsible for patient care and oversight of dental and dental hygiene students for laboratory and clinical courses in radiography and radiology including orientation, clinical supervision, instruction and performance evaluation. This individual is responsible for the image quality of all images performed by students within the clinical oral radiology area. This position also requires that the individual performs radiographic exams as prescribed by the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology faculty of the School of Dentistry or requesting clinical faculty. Responsibilities include committee and community service.
This is a non-tenure track, non-tenurable position.
Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience
- Dental hygiene license or eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- Current knowledge of clinical dental hygiene
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in Dental Hygiene or related field
- Five years of clinical experience in dental hygiene or related field
- Dental radiography experience (e.g., intraoral and extraoral [i.e., panoramic, cephalometric] and cone beam computed tomography experience) is highly desirable
- Previous academic experience
- Evidence of continuing education/methodology coursework
- Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills
Responsibilities Include:
- Abide by the University of Louisville school of Dentistry policies and philosophies and fulfill responsibilities as directed by the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology faculty and Department Chair
- Ensure that instruction meets or exceeds standards established by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation
- Remain in clinic for the duration of all clinical sessions
- Supervise and grade laboratorial and clinical skills in accordance with the objectives identified in the courses’ syllabi
- Employ a variety of teaching methods in order to meet the varied learning styles of students
- Monitor student performance and provide feedback to students in a reasonable amount of time
- Instruct students in the appropriate set up/break down of radiology operatories in accordance with standard infection control guidelines
- Instruct DMD and dental hygiene students in performance of intraoral and extraoral radiographic techniques
- Assess image quality according to defined criteria, and assess and approve dental student performance
- Perform maxillofacial x-ray (radiographic) examinations in clinics and is responsible for image quality assurance
- Prepare patients for radiographic examinations by explaining the procedure and ensuring proper positioning of both the patient and the radiographic equipment
- Perform maxillofacial cone beam computed tomography procedures
- Respond to emergency situations and implement emergency procedures
- Communicate with oral and maxillofacial radiology faculty about students’ needs, attendance, and achievements
- Attend continuing education/seminars, regional and/or national meetings
- Uphold expected standards of professionalism, quality, and ethics and in so doing serves as a role model for students
- Attend regularly scheduled department meetings
- Participate in trainings, development, and calibration sessions
- Perform other duties delegated by the Department Chair and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Faculty
- Support the ULSD mission and initiatives
