Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the Chief, Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer will report to the Programme Management Officer, and work under the general guidance of the Chief of the Branch. Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties: • Provide substantive and organizational input for the implementation of the programme of work of OCB, specifically with a view to promoting the ratification/accession and implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its three Protocols, as well as the three international drug control conventions; • Coordinate and contribute to the planning, and substantive and administrative servicing of the sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its subsidiary bodies; coordinate the preparation of, support quality assurance, and/or draft a variety of documents, including parliamentary documentation and speaking notes; support the work of the extended Bureau, the President and the Secretary of the Conference, including preparation of advice on procedural matters; • Coordinate at the Branch-level or across Divisions, as appropriate, the preparation and provision of substantive inputs on matters related to the overall work of OCB and its Global Programmes, including for correspondence with governments, briefing notes, presentations, policy/strategy documents, regular and ad hoc reports etc.; carry out quality assurance; and serve as a focal point at the Branch-level for various cross-cutting topics; • Participate and assist in the substantive and administrative servicing of the meetings of other intergovernmental bodies regarding crime prevention and criminal justice issues, including, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. • Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international relations, criminal justice, public or business administration, political science or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in crime prevention and criminal justice, combatting and preventing organized crime or illicit trafficking is required. Work experience in results-based programme development, implementation, and reporting is required. Work experience dealing with intergovernmental bodies is required. Work experience in substantively servicing meetings of intergovernmental bodies is desirable. Work experience in monitoring and evaluation of programmes is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system, or similar international organization, is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Fluency in another United Nations official language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is temporarily available until 31 August 2025. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
