We are looking for a d/Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent musician to take part in a year-long mentoring programme (April 2026 – March 2027).

Job Description

Musinc are looking for a d/Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent musician to take part in a year-long mentoring programme.

This mentorship is an opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of musically inclusive practice while working with an orchestra of young adults.

Mentees will be mentored by our inclusive orchestra Music Leader, supported by the Music Inclusion Manager and the rest of the Musinc team. Over Term 1, the mentee will shadow the music leader and begin to lead warm up activities and small group sectionals. Over Term 2, they will lead warmups and sectionals more regularly and start leading sections of full orchestra rehearsals. By Term 3, they will regularly lead sections of rehearsals, with a potential end goal of leading full orchestra rehearsals and leading in a performance session.

The mentorship will last for a year (April 2026 – March 2027), with orchestra rehearsals taking place weekly during term time. Alongside rehearsals, the mentor and mentee will have fortnightly meetings to develop an action plan and monitor progress.

Expected time commitment: up to 2.5 hours per week

Role Information

Role title: Musinc Mentee (Inclusive Orchestra) – Self employed

Location: Middlesbrough Town Hall

Session times: Thursdays, 4.30pm – 6pm

Rate of pay: £22.50 weekly rehearsal fee (£15 per hour delivery), £15 per hour meeting fee

Musinc’s rates of pay include time for session planning and weekly set up / pack down of equipment, in addition to delivery within the hours stated above.

This position is self-employed, and the mentorship will last from April 2026 to March 2027. You do not need to already be registered as self-employed, our staff can support you with this.

This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Job Requirements

This is a mentee role; therefore, we do not expect applicants to meet all of the criteria. We are looking for a musician who is passionate about providing musical opportunities for all people and are keen to develop their skills in leading inclusive musical activities.
