School of Environment and Energy (SEE) is affiliated with Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (PKU Shenzhen). Established in 2001, PKU Shenzhen is a joint initiative between Peking University and the Municipal Government of Shenzhen. As the only off-campus branch of Peking University, PKU Shenzhen integrates Peking University’s academic spirit of “freedom of thought and inclusiveness” with Shenzhen’s enterprising spirit of “daring to try and experiment”. It adheres to the educational philosophy of “cutting-edge fields, interdisciplinary studies, applied scholarship, and international standards”, aiming to become a new highland for cultivating international, interdisciplinary, and innovative talents. PKU Shenzhen is deeply rooted in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, creating a new engine for the construction of ‘New Engineering Disciplines’ to assist the country in solving critical core technological ‘bottleneck’ issues. It explores new paradigms for the integrated development of cutting-edge fields and regional industries and is an important strategic component in Peking University’s advancement to the forefront of world-class universities.
The School of Environment and Energy, in collaboration with the main campus, is building a first-class discipline in Environmental Science and Engineering at Peking University. The school is oriented towards major strategic needs of the nation, such as ecological civilization construction, carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It builds a new environmental engineering discipline that aims at continuously improving resource efficiency, features the study of All Material Fluxes (AMFs) of rivers and oceans, and adopts a multi-disciplinary integration approach. The school is committed to creating an innovative highland for the environmental science and technology industry that combines basic research, technological advancement, market application, and support for national strategic decision-making, with a focus on developing academic directions such as river and ocean ecological environments, pollution reduction and carbon emission reduction environmental technologies, and regional air pollution control. The school is in a new phase of innovative development and is actively advancing the ‘Talent-Strengthening School’ strategy, focusing on both attracting and nurturing talents. It is seeking visionary scholars for tenure-track/tenured faculty and senior research scientist positions. This is a call to those who aspire to define the next generation of solutions for global challenges in environmental sustainability, pollution control, climate change, and clean energy.
