Job Summary

The British Library has an internationally renowned collection of archives and manuscripts which grows year on year. We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent cataloguer to describe and enable access to hybrid archives from the Contemporary Archives and Manuscripts department.

Job Description

Containing both paper and born-digital records, you will work across the subject areas covered by the Contemporary Archives and Manuscripts section, including literary and creative archives as well as political, scientific and sociological archives, covering the period c.1950-present.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will possess either a professional archive qualification or equivalent experience in a professional environment. You will have experience of applying national and international standards to manuscripts and/or archive cataloguing, and the technical proficiency required to adapt to working with born-digital and hybrid records. You will have an awareness of relevant legislation and experience of applying it to archive cataloguing, and the ability to work independently and to a high degree of accuracy.

The post is funded by the The Library’s Unlocking Hidden Collections initiative, an ongoing effort to catalogue, research, and digitise uncatalogued or under-researched items, making them accessible to the public and researchers.
