Job Description

Trainee Music Director Wanted

Love playing music? Curious about leading others? This could be for you.

We’re looking for a Trainee Music Director to join Jambone, a brilliant collective of young people aged 13 to18 who love improvising and exploring popular, jazz and jazz influenced music.

This role is for musicians who might not see themselves as leaders (yet!), but who love music, enjoy working with people, and want to inspire the next generation. If you’re keen to grow your leadership skills in a supportive, real world setting, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll be part of weekly Sunday sessions (term time) and work closely with an experienced Music Director and a wider team of musicians and tutors from The Glasshouse Centre for Advanced Training.

Who is this for?
This role is ideal if you are:
A musician first, curious about leadership and facilitation
Into popular, jazz or jazz derived styles
Excited by improvisation and learning by ear
Interested in working with young people, even if you’ve never done it before

What you don’t need
You don’t need formal teaching qualifications
You don’t need years of experience leading groups
You don’t need to have all the answers

This is a trainee role. You’ll be supported, mentored and encouraged every step of the way.

If this role feels like it could be a good fit for you, even if you’re not sure you tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you. We’re looking for potential, not perfection!

Closing date: 12th July, 23.59
