Job Summary

Join the Board of First Act Theatre and help shape the future of a growing youth theatre charity. We’re seeking enthusiastic Trustees to support our strategic direction and help provide free performing arts opportunities for children and young people across the North East.

Job Description

First Act Theatre is a registered charity based at the historic Jubilee Theatre in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne. We provide free drama classes, productions and performance opportunities for children and young people across the North East, helping them build confidence, creativity, communication skills and lasting friendships through the performing arts.

As our charity continues to grow, we are looking to recruit a new Trustee to join our Board. This voluntary role offers an opportunity to use your skills and experience to help shape the future of a well-established local charity and ensure more young people can access high-quality creative opportunities regardless of their financial circumstances.

We are particularly interested in people with experience in fundraising, marketing and communications, finance, charity governance, education, legal or HR, safeguarding, digital, community engagement or strategic planning. However, we welcome applications from anyone who shares our values and is passionate about supporting children and young people through the arts.

Previous trustee experience is not essential. A full induction and ongoing support will be provided.

Trustees attend approximately four to six Board meetings each year, contribute to strategic planning and governance, and may support fundraising activities, productions and community events where appropriate.

As First Act Theatre works with children and young people, an Enhanced DBS check will be required as part of the appointment process.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities we serve.

Job Requirements

We are looking for people who are passionate about supporting children and young people through the arts. Previous trustee experience is not required, and a full induction will be provided.

Applicants should be able to think strategically, work collaboratively as part of a Board, contribute positively to discussions, and demonstrate good communication and organisational skills.

We are particularly interested in experience in fundraising, marketing and communications, finance, charity governance, education, legal or HR, safeguarding, digital, community engagement, or business development, although applicants from all professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings and commit around 4-8 hours per month on average. This includes preparing for meetings, contributing to strategic discussions and, where possible, supporting productions, fundraising activities and other events.

How to Apply

To apply for this voluntary Trustee role, please send your CV and a covering letter outlining your interest in the role and the skills or experience you could bring to the Board to us via

If you would like to arrange an informal discussion before applying, we would be delighted to hear from you.
The closing date for applications is 5:00pm on Monday 17 August 2026.
