Job Summary

Warwick Arts Centre is one of the largest arts centres in the UK, presenting a year-round programme of theatre, dance, music, comedy, film and visual art. Behind every performance is a technical team that makes it happen, and we’re looking for an Assistant Theatre Technician with a lighting bias

Job Description

You’ll be working as part of a multi-skilled technical team. Whilst your focus will be lighting, assisting to rig, focus, programme and operate lighting systems across all our performance spaces, the role covers the other departments: stage, sound, AV and workshop, to support the wide programme of events that take place at the arts centre.

No two days look the same. One might be a touring dance company, the next a comedy night, a conference or a film screening. You’ll work independently on allocated activities, supervise casual and freelance staff when needed, maintain equipment, fault-find under pressure, and help keep our venues safe and compliant with health, safety and licensing requirements.

About you

Professional experience in technical theatre, with a strong background in stage lighting, rigging, installing and operating lighting control systems, generic and intelligent fixtures, DMX networks, dimming, switch-mode power and three-phase supply.
Experience of at least one further discipline: technical stage management including counterweight flying; digital sound desk operation; cinema projection; live digital and AV technologies.
A flexible, creative and solutions-focused approach, with genuine artistic sensitivity.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and the initiative to solve problems in the venue.
A sound awareness of health and safety, including manual handling, LOLER/PUWER, COSHH and Noise at Work.
Good IT skills across Mac and Windows, and comfort learning specialist theatre software.
Educated to GCSE or equivalent level, or with demonstrable equivalent experience.
Comfortable working at height, in low light and across long, unsocial hours including evenings, overnights and weekends.
Desirable

Relevant electrical or health & safety qualifications, competence in CAD packages, vocational CPD (ABTT awards, PLASA rigging, IPAF or MEWP training), experience of a multi-venue environment, and a full clean driving licence.

Job Requirements

To work across all areas of Warwick Arts Centre to provide lighting, technical stage management, audio, AV support but specialising in stage lighting and electrics operations as it relates to performing arts.

To ensure the highest standards of technical presentation for all events, whilst being aware of Health and Safety legislation and general requirements associated with premises Licensed for public entertainment.
