The Montgomery County School Board in Virginia is now accepting applications for English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching positions that may become available within our division for the 2025 – 2026 school year.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The ESL Teacher is required to plan and implement instruction for students who have limited skills with the English language; is responsible for developing the English skills that enable students to be successful in the regular classroom; works with the classroom teachers and guidance counselors of students to aid them in the proficiency of the English language. The ESL Teacher is responsible for the administration of placement tests and placement of students according to their abilities when they first enter the school.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teacher’s License with appropriate endorsement to teach English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans and curriculum materials
  • Possess ability to effectively assess student learning and use results to plan and implement appropriate instruction
  • Integrate technology into classroom instruction to enhance learning
  • Utilize Google Drive for instructional purposes, collaboration, and managing coursework
  • Create and maintain an inclusive, supportive learning environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of all students
  • Communicate effectively with strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Engage and collaborate effectively with parents and families
  • Collaborate with other teachers and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a master’s degree in Education and/or the specific subject area

FLSA: Exempt

SALARY: $50,072.26 – $83,120.04 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience (current salary scale may change due to 2025-2026 budget considerations)
