Course Description:

Writing for Discipline Specific Purposes:

This course focuses on helping students write for discipline specific purposes through the development of academic reports and research papers that display an understanding of academic integrity and academic conventions within a university context. Students will be taught skills for conducting research on a topic using a variety of sources and methods while effectively citing and referencing. Emphasis will also be placed on helping students develop skills to proofread and revise work and acquire academic grammar and vocabulary. Students will be supported in developing academic readiness for undergraduate programs at the University of Ottawa.

Course Dates: July 2 – August 23, 2024

Master’s degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline. Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level. Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course. Experience with team-teaching. TESL Certification or equivalent. 

Please note: This course is offered exclusively on the University of Ottawa campus and requires in-person instruction.
