POSITION:

Teaching Assistant Professor of Legal Studies, TL055, Full-Time: 100% appointment, Instructional Academic Staff, Ongoing/Renewable, Academic (9-month), one vacancy

This position is eligible for hybrid work consideration. Currently eligibility requires residency in one of the following states: Wisconsin or Minnesota upon hire.

POSITION SUMMARY: 

As the premiere and only four-year Legal Studies and Criminal Justice Program in the Northland region, we are dedicated to preparing students for careers and advanced studies in the areas of law, criminal justice, and beyond.

We are seeking applicants for a Teaching Assistant Professor position, with a specialized focus in Legal Studies who demonstrate a commitment to student learning and development. The ideal candidate will have expertise in areas such as legal theory, legal processes and systems, and/or comparative / international law.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Teach 12 credits per semester on campus, potentially including Room and Zoom (Hybrid synchronous courses)
  • Develop the materials necessary for teaching those courses, including syllabi, Canvas modules, assignments, etc.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other members of the CJUS / LSTU program to provide support and advising for students in multiple capacities.
  • Contributes to the development of scholarship related to teaching and learning, including publications and presentations.
  • Participate in Teaching & Learning Cohort (TLC) Orientation and mentoring program in the first year.
  • Engage in program service activities such as assessment, scheduling, marketing, recruitment and retention, community partner outreach, and other program related support as designated by the program.
  • Identify and develop opportunities in the community for outreach and partnership.
  • Serve on Department and University committees.

Other Duties:

  • Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • MA/MS in Law, Legal Studies, Jurisprudence, or a related field OR Juris Doctorate (JD)
  • Experience with teaching / facilitating learning (at any level including K-12, community, workplace, and higher education).

This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • PhD in Legal Studies, or a related field OR Juris Doctorate (JD)
  • Familiarity with traditional pre-law pedagogical methods, including Issue, Rule, Application, and Conclusion (IRAC)
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience teaching or learning in an online environment
  • Professional experience working in a law-related context
  • Connections to potential regional partners in the legal field
  • Experience in comparative law and/or the principles of tribal sovereignty
  • Experience with legal databases such as Westlaw

SALARY & BENEFITS: 

Salary range for this position is: $54,000 – $64,000 annually. Specific benefit information can be found here. A snapshot of benefits offered for this position include:

  • Hours are pro-rated based on appointment percentage for less than 100%-time employees.
