TEACHING AND LEARNING SPECIALIST – MULTILINGUAL SECONDARY

Job Summary: 

Hemet USD is committed to building continuous improvement capability throughout the district in order to effectively and reliably meet the needs of all students it serves. Building improvement capability at this scale requires the development of a learning environment that allows for (1) close collaboration between district and site-based staff who are closest to the work of educating students (2) ongoing learning and application of improvement methodologies on problems that occur in the day-to-day work at the district and sites (3) iterative design and testing cycles of changes to improve district-wide outcomes.

Under the direction of an administrator from Educational Service Division, the Teaching and Learning Specialist will support the District’s initiatives in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The Specialist will function as an instructional specialist and content expert within the District. The Specialist will provide leadership and guidance in content-specific scope and sequence work, instructional delivery utilizing curriculum and best practices, and assessment of grade-level standards. The specialist will support the development and delivery of content-related professional development. The specialist will use improvement tools and strategies to understand and respond to the needs of the system in order to improve student outcomes. The specialist will support district compliance with California Common Core Standards and the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. This is a district-based position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide expertise and guidance in content area-specific curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Coordinates and/or provides training and coaching to school staff in content-specific instructional best practices
• Co-lead the direction and coordination for curriculum implementation consistent with the district’s foundational principles and recognized best instructional practices.
• Support and lead the development and implementation of content-specific scope and sequence
• Support the K-12 schools in implementing Improvement Science Methodologies at the District, site, and classroom level
• Support the implementation of research-based instructional strategies and programs that meet the needs of a diverse student population and align to district initiatives.
• Use data and improvement science methodologies to drive decision-making
• Promote, lead, and train in the continuous growth of Professional Learning Communities and Improvement
• Lead, support, and improve Standards Based Grading and Reporting
• Lead onboarding for new certificated and classroom-based classified staff on best practices regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, and improvement science.
• Work with site administration in determining and providing the school site’s professional development needs based on assessment data, site action plans, and site goals.
• Support staff in adapting and modifying instructional strategies and assessments, as necessary, to support all students’ academic progress with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Continue to engage in professional learning, reflection, and growth
• Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to monitor and analyze student progress and achievement of state and district grade-level/course content standards, and present data to appropriate stakeholders.
• Support the district assessment system by analyzing the system, and its data, and making recommendations for its improvement and alignment.
• Support Learning Improvement Site Support Specialists with content-specific curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Provide professional development at the district and school site levels
• Provide coaching and guidance to site administrators, teachers, and support staff
• Support with curriculum adoptions and supplemental material requests/usage.
• Communicate important information with stakeholders
• Incorporate instructional technology best practices into coaching, PD, and support
• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records, as required by law, district policy, and administrative rules/procedures.
• Maintain professional confidentiality concerning individual student data and achievement
• Work constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of a student’s behavior and/or academic success.
• Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents, and community
• Participate collaboratively and effectively in various meetings (e.g. staff, team, collaboration, in-service training, ) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or sharing experiences.
• Facilitate committee meetings
• Attend grade-level/content area collaboration meetings in a support role
• Attend meetings, workday trainings, and professional learning as directed by the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Directors, or designee.
• Be an integral member of the Educational Services team
• Adheres to the standards and policies of the District
• Perform other duties as assigned by administrators as assigned across the District
• Some positions may require the flexing of hours with a determined start/end time according to daily need

EDUCATION:

Possession of a Baccalaureate or higher degree. Master’s degree preferred.

COMPENSATION:

Teacher Salary Schedule plus 10 days
