The Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning invites applications for a full-time, two-year term position at the level of Instructor in the area of Science Education, commencing September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach 24 credit hours of coursework per academic year (equivalent to eight courses), most of these at the Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, with opportunities to also teach at the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education (PBDE) and at the graduate levels. Most courses occur during Fall (September – December); and Winter (January – April) terms, but some may also be scheduled for Summer term (May – August).

Courses may include, but are not limited to single or multiple sections of:
• EDUB 3014 Early Years: Science and Social Studies
• EDUB 3140 Senior Years Curriculum & Instruction: Sciences
• EDUB 3058 Middle Years Teaching Science
• EDUB 4010 Pedagogy for Sustainable Well-being: Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies
• EDUB 4140 Senior Years Teaching Biology
• EDUB 4142 Senior Years Teaching Chemistry
• EDUB 4146 Senior Years Teaching General Sciences
• EDUB 4154 Senior Years Teaching Physics
• EDUB 5782 Contemporary Issues in Science Curriculum, Teaching and Learning
• EDUB 5784 Recent Practices in Science Teaching and Learning
• EDUB 5786 Teaching for Scientific Literacy in the K-12 Settings
• EDUB 7500 Seminar in Science Education: Philosophical and Theoretical Foundations
• EDUB 7492 Recent Advances in Mathematics Education and Science Education
• EDUB 7494 Processes and Practices in Teaching and Learning Science

This position has a 20% service component. Activities will include, but are not limited to:
• participation in Faculty and Departmental meetings, and Mathematics Education and Science Education Area Group meetings;
• contribute to the administrative functions of the department (e.g., review of applications to the Master of Education program); and
• acting as graduate students’ advisory committee member.

At the time of appointment, applicants must have:
• an earned doctorate in Science Education or related Education fieldI. Candidates near completion of their doctorate may also be considered;
• evidence of scholarship in science education; and
• teaching experience in schools (K – 12), and/or adult or post-secondary contexts in science education.

The Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning in the Faculty of Education has 23 full-time equivalent faculty members who perform research, service, and teaching responsibilities in the Bachelor of Education (BEd), Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education (PBDE), Master of Education (MEd), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes. The Department currently offers courses in several graduate concentrations, including Studies in Mathematics Education and Science Education.
