Academic Assistant II – Writing, Reading, Speech

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
To provide academic assistance to students in the Writing, Reading, Speech Assistance Area of the College of DuPage. Academic Assistant II will offer presentations in classrooms or online.
Provide writing, reading, and public speaking assistance to students in all academic disciplines taught at the College of DuPage, in-person and online.
Provide in-class and online orientations on WRSA services.
Conduct and/or create workshops on various writing, reading, and speech topics to be presented in classrooms or through webinars.
Consult and serve as a resource to other academic assistants and peer academic assistants.
Develop and/or participate in training on WRSA related topics.
Maintain current and relevant knowledge in subject areas and general study skills.
Qualifications:
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required.
- Preferred Education: Master’s degree or endorsement/credentials in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, ESL, Speech Communications, or Reading Specialist.
- Experience
- Experience teaching or providing academic assistance required.
- Experience presenting in groups required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in spoken English required.
Working Conditions:
Ten (10) to twenty-five (25) hours per week during academic terms only (approximately 40 weeks per year). Some evening or weekend hours are required.
Up-to-date skills in relevant technologies.
This position is subject to a background check and education verification at the expense of the College.
Pay Grade:
noncredit nonclassroom Category 3 – $25.75 per hour
