Description of WorkThe University of Nebraska Press is seeking an Academic Marketing Specialist. The responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to: conceptualizing and organizing our exhibits; working with authors, editors, and colleagues on all academic marketing initiatives; and helping with the overall marketing strategy for scholarly monographs and journals. The goal is to increase UNP’s academic publications’ visibility and sales through a variety of marketing tactics including, but not limited to, publicity, exhibits, advertising, and other promotional efforts in coordination with the Assistant Journals Manager and reporting to the Marketing and Sales Manager. This position is a crucial part of the marketing strategy to ensure UNP has a recognizable and effective presence at exhibits representing both books and journals, as well as marketing and selling its scholarly publications to the widest possible academic audience.This position may be considered for remote work in accordance with the University of Nebraska’s Alternative Worksite program. Minimum Required QualificationsBachelor’s in Communication, Marketing, Journalism, Business or related field and experience in marketing-related or customer service or sales positions; equal education/experience considered. Proven work experience in social media marketing or knowledge of online marketing and understanding of major marketing online platforms. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel). Experience with databases. Willingness to learn new software systems. Customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exhibits strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects, including the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines. Attention to detail. Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.
Preferred QualificationsThe ideal candidate would have a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in a publishing environment. Supervisory experience. Ability to proofread. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite products, especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. Experience with WordPress-based websites.
