Northampton Community College is currently accepting applicants for an English as a Second Language (ESL) Adjunct Instructor due to anticipated enrollment for the upcoming 2024 Fall term. All courses are scheduled for weekday mornings or evenings. Most classes will meet in person; remote teaching options are limited.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction at specific levels and skill areas; hold office hours for academic consultation for students.
  • Provide learner centered instruction with appropriate assessment.
  • Create course syllabi and lesson plans following the ESL department established curriculum guidelines; integrate a variety of sound instructional methods and technology into daily classes.
  • Produce relevant and reliable assessment tools and conduct routine assessment to evaluate student progress throughout the semester.
  • Carry out final assessment for each course which reflects the material taught throughout the semester.
  • Maintain the ESL department’s mission and policies.
  • Collaborate with ESL staff on programs, curriculum, and activities.
  • Provide culturally appropriate classroom leadership.
  • Attend training and staff meetings as required.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in TESOL or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution
  • Demonstrated knowledge of language teaching and learning
  • College teaching experience preferred
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of students
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
