POSITION PURPOSE: Didactic and/or Clinical
Didactic/Labs/Preclinical (Dental Assisting/Dental Hygiene):
Being an instructor or faculty member is to provide high-quality education and mentorship to students. Faculty members are responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction, developing and updating curriculum, and supporting the academic and personal growth of students. They also play a crucial role in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, contributing to the college’s mission, and participating in community and college events.
Faculty members are expected to stay current in their field through continuous professional development and to use innovative teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students. Additionally, they are involved in evaluating student progress, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to college policies and procedures. The role also includes mentoring students and acting as role models, thereby significantly impacting students’ lives beyond the classroom.
Dental Clinic (Dental Hygiene):
Supervises patient treatment in the dental hygiene clinic as required by the Indiana State Board of Dentistry Practice Act. This position involves consulting with dental hygiene faculty and students on patient medical and dental histories, prescribing and evaluating radiographs, and diagnosing oral conditions. Responsibilities include performing dental exams, noting and referring abnormal or pathologic conditions, coordinating emergency activities, administering or supervising anesthesia, and prescribing necessary medications. Additionally, the individual provides consultative services to clinical faculty and students, modeling professional and collegial relationships. Being a clinical faculty member is to provide high-quality education and mentorship to students. Fully supports the college’s mission and strategic plan initiatives.
